Messengers with strong determination

Question

Who are the messengers referred to in the verse in which Allaah The Almighty Says (what means): {Those of determination among the messengers} [Quran 46:35]?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

Scholars held many different opinions with regard to determining the identity of the messengers with strong determination. The predominant opinion is that they are five, namely, Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) Nooh (Noah), Ibraaheem (Abraham), Moosa (Moses) and ‘Eesa (Jesus), may Allaah exalt their mention. To support this, Allaah The Almighty specified the names of such messengers after He mentioned all the prophets in general.

According to the Arabic language, specifically mentioning something and then adding it to a more general one, highlights an extra merit for it. This is mentioned in the verse in which Allaah Says (what means): {And [mention, O Muhammad], when We took from the prophets their covenant and from you and from Nooh (Noah) and 'Ibraaheem (Abraham) and Moosa (Moses) and Eesa (Jesus), the son of Mary.}[Quran 33:7]

Allaah Knows best.
