Muslims should establish Islam and not wait for the Mahdi to appear before doing so

Question

Is the Muslim nation awaiting the return of the rightly-guided caliphate?
Will the expected Mahdi come from Jerusalem and the surrounding areas?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alyhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

The Muslim nation has to work to achieve victory and establish Islam. The way to achieve this purpose has already been outlined by Allaah The Almighty. The Muslims have to acquire true faith, for the true believer ought to be superior. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means):

· {So do not weaken and do not grieve, and you will be superior if you are [true] believers.} [Quran 3:139]

· {And to Allaah belongs [all] honor, and to His Messenger, and to the believers.} [Quran 63:8]

· {And Our Word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, [That] indeed, they would be those given victory.} [Quran 37:171-172]

Moreover, Allaah The Almighty orders Muslims to prepare and mobilize their army soon after they acquire faith, as referred to in the verse that reads (what means): {And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war by which you may terrify the enemy of Allaah and your enemy.} [Quran 8:60]

Moreover, Allaah The Almighty orders that there must be allegiance with the believers and disassociation from the disbelievers; and He considers it a cause that leads to attaining victory and establishing Islam. Allaah The Almighty Says (what means):

  • {And whoever is an ally of Allaah and His Messenger and those who have believed - indeed, the party of Allaah - they will be the predominant.} [Quran 5:56]
  • {O you who have believed, if you obey a party of those who were given the Scripture, they would turn you back, after your belief, [to being] unbelievers.} [Quran 3:100]

Also, Allaah The Almighty orders Muslims to be patient in the face of malicious planning and adversities from the disbelievers. Muslims should also ward them off by having steadfast resolve and firm belief. He, the Almighty, promises to thwart their malicious schemes, Saying (what means): {And if you are patient and guard yourselves, their scheme will not injure you in any way; surely Allaah comprehends what they do.} [Quran 2:120]

The Muslims have to endure the cultural and military invasion of their enemies. Allaah The Almighty mentions the importance of unity in order to attain victory, power and steadfastness. He The Almighty also defines disunity as a cause for reaping defeat and loss of power as mentioned in the verse (which means): {And do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart.} [Quran 8:46]

In conclusion, the way to achieve this is to return to understanding the Quran and Sunnah according to methodology of our pious predecessors.

The Mahdi will appear in the East as the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) mentioned in an authentic Hadeeth narrated by Thawbaan may Allaah be pleased with him that there will be a fight between three leaders. Afterwards, black banners will rise in the East. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) ordered Muslims that once they heard of the Mahdi's appearance, they had to go to him – even if it was extremely difficult to do so. This is necessary in order to swear the oath of allegiance to him, because the Mahdi will be the vicegerent of Allaah The Almighty.

Allaah Knows best.
