I am a university student and need advice on how to call other students to Islam.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
First of all, it is crucial to know that anyone who undertakes Da‘wah must be equipped with both knowledge and faith, for knowledge repels doubts, while faith repels evil desires. The outcome of this combination is an Islamic role model.
As to the method of Da‘wah to Islam, the following should be noted:
Concentrate on the fundamentals of faith: belief in Allaah The Almighty, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Day of Judgment and fate.
Adopt a gradual, prioritized approach. Begin with the most important matters, then move on to the less important, and so on. This was indicated in the Hadeeth narrated on the authority of Ibn ‘Abbaas
which relates that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, sent Mu‘aath to Yemen informing him that he is going to People of the Book and that he should hence follow a certain sequence. Firstly, he should call on them to testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is the Messenger of Allaah. If they comply he should then inform them that Allaah has prescribed upon them five daily prayers. The instructions then followed in the same gradual manner.
Demonstrate the virtues of Islam through its legislation, such as the solidarity and mercy among Muslims.
Focus on the miraculous scientific aspects of the Quran and the Sunnah, provided that this is done wisely without exaggeration.
Study the common misconceptions prevailing in the respective environment and find suitable responses to them.
Above all, it is of prime importance to be driven by sincere intentions for the sake of Allaah The Almighty.
Allaah Knows best.
