Question
Is beatboxing allowed when done with nasheed or using it as a background sound for da'wah video's or similar?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
It is permissible to use the sound effects produced by the interrupted tones of the voices of Munshids (singers of Islamic songs) without using musical instruments. As for the sounds recorded by computers and then controlled by magnifying, multiplying and softening them in a way that they look like the sounds produced by musical instruments, then they are included in the ruling of music.
Shaykh Salmaan Al-Oodah said: “We view that there is nothing wrong with such rhythms or sound effects that accompany the Islamic songs if they are non- musical effects, such as repeating, changing and extending the voice and also like echoes, sounds of water and birds and the other similar improvements, or the sound of tambourines, especially if they are listened to during the appropriate times like weddings, traveling, get-togethers and the like. However, if they (the rhythms or sound effects that accompany the Islamic songs) are musical rhythms, i.e. musical sounds such as the sounds of the prohibited musical instruments, then they are included in the ruling of the musical instruments because what counts is what reaches the ears.”
According to this detailed view, it is clear what can be used as background sounds for Da'wah videos clips and what cannot be used.”
