Her husband badly needs a job but it requires shaving his beard

Question

Salam alaikum My husband quit a halal job he had for years as it does not allow beard due to the job requirement to wear gas mask. We took our children's out of Islamic school and used our saving to get him to truck job. We lose our hse in the process as we are unable to keep payment. The truck driving job takes him away from home for weeks. But able to have beard. In between he tried to find other jobs but failed. The problem with this job is despite being on the road for so long it does not paid well to cover bills and foods . Also truck often broke down and he left stranded on the road waiting for company to sent someone to rescue him. He only making 200- 300 for 5 days work not enough to pay bills and feed 5 young children's. However Allah bless us with pension money that we were able to take out. This money we had planned to use it for our Hijra. My question is 1) we know its haram to shave but in our case is it allowed to shave and get back to old job? We planning to make Hijra early next yr as such he will able to have beard as he won't be able to work there. 2) if he stay with the truck job and its pay low we will be running out of money that was meant for our Hijra and not able to pay our debts that we had from jahiliyia before we move.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Your husband should strive to look for another job that does not require shaving his beard and whereby he can earn enough money to repay his debts and make arrangements for Hijrah.

If he fails to find such a job and the only way to be able to do the obligatory Hijrah is through financial means, and he could not find any other job than this one, then there is no harm in taking this job until he earns enough money to repay his debts and complete the arrangements for travelling. This is because the preservation of one’s religion is one of the five necessities and purposes of the Islamic Sharee'ah.

Allaah Knows best.
