Essalam alaykoum Is it possible to use wipes Which can be humids instead of using toilet paper for istijmar? Barakallahou fikoum.

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Performing Istijmaar (i.e. purifying oneself after the call of nature with stones and the like) with wipes is not valid because they are moist. One of the conditions for the validity of Istijmaar with stones or another material in its place (such as toilet paper, a towel or the like) is that it has to be dry; it must not be wet or moist. If the person performs Istijmaar with a wet or moist material, he is obliged to clean himself with water to purify himself of the impurity and nothing but water would remove it. The wet or moist material used in Istijmaar becomes ritually impure itself once it touches the impurity and instead of purifying the impure location, the impurity is transferred (to it and to whatever it touches).

The Maaliki scholar Al-Hattaab wrote, "Similar to purifying oneself after the call of nature with an impure material is performing Istijmaar with a wet material; the impurity is transferred from one item to another through wetness." [Mawaahib Al-Jaleel]

The Shaafi‘i scholar Ar-Ramli wrote, "If the person performs Istijmaar with a wet stone, it is invalid because the impurity is transferred to the wetness of the stone and accordingly it renders the location impure. In this case, it is incumbent on the person to use water in purifying himself of such impurity." [Nihaayat Al-Muhtaaj]
