Outlining the eyebrows of men is included in the prohibited plucking of the hair of the eyebrows

Question

Is it permissible for a man to remove some of the hair of his eyebrows or to outline them?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

It is not permissible for men or women to pluck any of the hair of their eyebrows. Ibn Mas‘ood may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, cursed the women who tattoo, those who get tattooed, those who pluck the hair of their eyebrows, those who have their eyebrow hair plucked, and those who make gaps between their teeth for beauty; those who change what Allaah created. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

If this is said regarding women for whom some forms of adornment are allowed apart from men, then men should not do so with even more reason. Prohibition for men is more stringent, and cutting any of the hair of their eyebrows is even more reprehensible. It is not permissible to cut any of the hair of the eyebrows except if there is a medicinal necessity or if the eyebrows do not grow naturally and constitute a deformity to one's appearance. In such cases, it is permissible to remove as much of it as necessary without going beyond that. This is so because necessity should be addressed proportionately.

Allaah Knows best.
