Torment of the grave takes place regardless of time of death

Question

With regards to the torment of the grave, how can the person who died a thousand years ago have an equal torment to the one who dies, for instance, a year before the Day of Resurrection?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

The torment of the grave is established by evidence which provides decisive knowledge of it. Quranic verses confirm this torment and a person must believe in it,

Please note, dear brother in Islam, that we must believe in authentically reported matters of the Unseen whether our minds comprehend these matters or not. You should also note that the decreed torment in the grave for each person will inevitably befall him by the power of Allaah the Almighty, which nothing can hinder, regardless of the time of death, whether it was in the ancient past or near the end of time.
