No one will escape the terror of the Hereafter

Question

How will the situation of the believers be on the Day of Resurrection?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

A believer will be in great terror on the Day of Resurrection, until he is called to reckoning.

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, explained that Allaah the Almighty will gather all people on the Day of Resurrection and the sun will draw near to their heads so that people will become too worried and grief-afflicted to bear it. They will search for someone to intercede for them with Allaah the Almighty.

Firstly, they will go to Aadam may Allaah exalt his mention and ask him to intercede for them. He will tell them that Allaah the Almighty is angry that day in a way He has never been before and will never be afterwards, and he will tell them that Allaah the Almighty forbade him from eating from the forbidden tree but he disobeyed Him. He will add that he is concerned only with himself and his own rescue on that Day, and will tell them to go to Nooh (Noah) may Allaah exalt his mention.

Then people will go to Nooh may Allaah exalt his mention and will ask for his intercession. He will tell them that Allaah the Almighty is angry that day in a way He has never been before and will never be again. He will tell them that he had only one supplication and he utilized it by asking Allaah the Almighty to afflict his people with punishment, so he has no further supplications or intercessions. He will inform them that he is concerned only with himself and his own rescue, and will ask them to go to Ibraaheem (Abraham) may Allaah exalt his mention.

Then they will go to Ibraaheem may Allaah exalt his mention and will ask for his intercession. He will tell them that Allaah the Almighty is angry that Day in a way he has never been before and will never be afterwards, and he will state that he has told three untruths. He will say to them that he is concerned only with himself and his own rescue, and will ask them to go to Moosa (Moses) may Allaah exalt his mention.

They will go to Moosa may Allaah exalt his mention and will ask for his intercession. He will tell them that Allaah the Almighty is angry that day in a way He has never been before and will never be afterwards. He will mention to them that he killed a man that he was not ordered to kill. He will tell them that he is concerned only with himself and his own rescue, and will tell them to go to ‘Eesa (Jesus) may Allaah exalt his mention.

They will go to ‘Eesa may Allaah exalt his mention and will ask for his intercession, and he will say that Allaah the Almighty is angry that day in a way he has never been before and will never be afterwards. He will mention no sin of his and will inform them that he is concerned only with himself and his own rescue, and will ask them to go to Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

They will go to Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and ask for his intercession. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, will go under the Throne of Allaah the Almighty and will fall down in prostration before Him, then it will be said, “O Muhammad, lift up your head and ask for anything, for you will be given, and intercede, for your intercession will be accepted.” Then he, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, will raise his head and will say: “My Ummah (Nation) O my Lord, my nation O my Lord." Then it will be said, “O Muhammad, admit those among your Ummah who will not be reckoned through the right gate of paradise….” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

on the authority of Al-Miqdaad ibn Al-Aswad may Allaah be pleased with him the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, explained that on the Day of Resurrection the sun will be close to the heads of creatures, only a mile away. [Muslim and Ahmad]

The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, also stated that people on the Day of Resurrection will sweat according to their misdeeds: sweat will reach the heels of some, the knees of some, the shoulders of some, and others will be drowned by their sweat.

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, stated that people will fall into three categories at the time of resurrection: a category will be perplexed between the fear of torture and the hope of reward – and these are ordinary Muslims. A second category will take turns in riding - and these are the best among the Muslims, who will be resurrected in a state of riding. A third category will be driven by fire which will stay and walk with them wherever and whenever they go. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

On the authority of ‘Aa`ishah may Allaah be pleased with her the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, indicated that people will be resurrected naked and barefooted. ‘Aa`ishah may Allaah be pleased with her was surprised at how people will be naked. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, told her that the situation will be so difficult than that to be of any concern to them. [Al-Bukhari and Ahmad]

This is the case with most people at the place of resurrection. However, there will be some people under the shade of the Throne of Allaah the Almighty.

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, explained that Allaah will give shade to seven types of people on the Day when there will be no shade but His. These seven types are: a just ruler, a youth who was been brought up to worship Allaah since childhood, a man whose heart was attached to mosques, two people who loved each other only for the sake of Allaah the Almighty, and they met and parted in the cause of Allaah the Almighty, a man who refused the call of a charming woman of noble birth for illicit intercourse with her and said I fear Allaah, a man who gave charity so secretly that his left hand did not know what his right hand had given, and a person who remembered Allaah in seclusion and his eyes overflowed with tears. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

In brief, no one will escape the hardships and terror of the Hereafter.

Allaah Knows best.
