Rank of a slave depends on obedience to Allaah The Almighty and adherence to the Sunnah

Question

I used to see light while walking, on my arm, and while reciting the Quran, but now I do not see it anymore. Why is that?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallaallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

We do not know what the light you used to see was, and we do not know its significance, but in general, light indicates blessing. This is why the Prophet, sallaallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, used to supplicate Allaah The Almighty by saying: “Allaahuma ij‘al fi qalbi noora wa fi basari noora wa fi sam‘i noora...” (O Allaah! Fill my heart with light, my sight with light and my hearing…) [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

We advise you to continue in your endeavor to worship Allaah The Almighty by praying, fasting, reciting the Quran and so on. You should ask Allaah The Almighty to make you steadfast and grant you a good end. If you are guided and Allaah The Almighty answers your call, you will be among those who are pious, who adhere to the teachings of Allaah The Almighty and those for whom the best reward has preceded from Him. You should not worry about missing the light that you used to see, as the most important criterion is obedience to Allaah The Almighty and to the Sunnah (tradition) of the Prophet, sallaallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

Allaah Knows best.
