Breaking a spell buried under the house’s threshold

Question

Is it possible that a house has a harmful threshold? A Shaykh told me that my husband has to recite Ayat Al-kursi [Quran 2:255] 170 times each morning so as to be able to live in this house. What is your opinion about that?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

It may happen that some people with weak faith and piety put spells on the threshold of houses with the intention to harm the people who live there by means of magic.

The treatment for this evil act is – Allaah willing – very easy. You have to recite the verses of the Quran that talk about magic on some water; especially the Saying of Allaah The Almighty (what means): {Moosa said: What you have brought is [only] magic. Indeed, Allaah will expose its worthlessness. Indeed, Allaah does not amend the work of corrupters.} [Quran10:81]

Then the water on which these verses have been recited should be sprinkled over the threshold, and this will –Allaah willing- nullify the effect of the spell.

Be sure that reading Ayat Al-kursi 170 times per day is not an act approved by the Sharee’ah (Islamic law) to nullify the effect of magic, rather this is an act adopted by sorcerers and conjurers. If a person wants to ask about a certain matter, he should ask authorized, trustworthy scholars, not people who, due to their ignorance, lead other people astray.

Allaah Knows best.
