Numerous supernatural events occurred to honor the allies of Allaah

Question

Were there supernatural events through which Allaah the Exalted honored the martyrs from among the Companions, may Allaah be pleased with them, and the Taabi‘is, may Allaah have mercy upon them?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It was reported on the authority of Abu Hurayrah may Allaah be pleased with him that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, sent a phalanx under the leadership of ‘Aasim ibn Thaabit may Allaah be pleased with him. Khubayb ibn ‘Adiyy may Allaah be pleased with him was one of the soldiers whom the people of Makkah captured and tied. However, it was reported that they saw him eating grapes at a time when there was no fruit in Makkah at all, and while he was tied with iron chains. Furthermore, he added that when the disbelievers of Makkah wanted to mutilate the body of ‘Aasim ibn Thaabit may Allaah be pleased with him Allaah The Almighty sent a swarm of bees to safeguard his body and they were prevented from doing this. [Al-Bukhari]

This Saheeh Hadeeth (authentic narrations) mentions two supernatural events with which Allaah the Exalted honored two martyrs from among the Companions: ‘Aasim ibn Thaabit may Allaah be pleased with him whose corpse was safeguarded by bees, and Kubayb ibn ‘Adiyy may Allaah be pleased with him who was seen eating grapes while tied before martyrdom.

On the other hand, you must know that there were numerous supernatural events that occurred to honor the allies of Allaah. Belief in the occurrence of such events is one of the principles of Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jamaa'ah. Referring to this, Ibn Taymiyyah may Allaah have mercy upon him mentioned that it is one of the principles of Ahlus-Sunnah Wal-Jamaa'ah, to believe in the numerous supernatural events that occurred at the hands of the allies of Allaah The Almighty, including the ability of some of them were allowed visions related to Unseen matters and to do supernatural deeds. What was mentioned in Chapter Al-Kahf and others about some people from the previous nations and about what happened to the first Muslims from among the Companions may Allaah be pleased with them and the Taabi‘is may Allaah have mercy upon them and other Muslim generations, are examples of such events. Furthermore, they believed that such events would continue to happen in this 'Ummah until the Day of Judgment.

Allaah Knows best.
