Wearing unisex perfume

Question

Assalaamu alaykum. Is it permissible for a man to wear unisex perfume? May Allah reward you. (I would like a direct answer, please, instead of being directed/referred to relevant fatwas, if that is okay.)

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

It is permissible for a man to wear the mentioned perfume. Rather, it is permissible for a man to wear women's perfume; however, it is disliked. Al-Haafith Ibn Hajar may Allaah have mercy upon him wrote while addressing the topic of wearing perfume for the Friday prayer:

"The version of the hadith cited in Saheeh Muslim reads, '...and he wears whatever perfume he could use.' Another version reads, '...even if it is women's perfume.' ʻIyaadh said that 'whatever perfume he could use' either refers to the ability to use perfume or to the large amount. The first possibility is more likely and is supported by the addition in the other version, which says, 'even if it is women's perfume.' In principle, it is disliked for the man to wear women's perfume (which has a visible color and a delicate scent). Making it permissible for the man to wear it when no other perfume is available indicates the emphasis on wearing perfume for the Friday prayer." [Fat-h Al-Baari]

Allah knows best.
