Asking Allah to be like the Companions

Question

Aslaam alaikum shaykh. 1. I supplicate to Allah To give me sincerity as He gave Sahaba and Salaf saleheen and to grant me knowledge as u granted as u granted to Sahaba and Salaf saleheen etc do you think it's correct to supplicate this way? 2 . Islam Is A religion of Mercy but I Am Confused why it is permissible to sell Slaves to Non Muslims they may treat them Mercilessly?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

With regard to your first question, if you mean that you supplicate Allah to grant you the same knowledge and sincerity as the Companions, then there is nothing wrong with that –Allah willing. This is not supplicating with what is impossible, and there is no transgression in this supplication, as it is possible that a person who came after them in later generations to reach their level of knowledge and sincerity.

However, no one will reach their status in excellence and virtue, as they had the honor of being Companions of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) which no one else after them can reach.

As for your second question, there is no benefit in investigating it or answering it because there is no slavery in our time for known reasons.

Therefore, it is better for a Muslim to research beneficial matters and ask about questions that result in actions.

Allah knows best.
