Question
Is it permissible for someone in a state of Ihraam to use Vicks or 'Abu Fas' (i.e. medical substances with a strong odor) to relieve cold symptoms?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
It is permissible for a person in the state of Ihraam to use Vicks (i.e. also known as Abu Fas). This is because it is not a kind of perfume nor does it contain perfume. This is also based on the fact that it is not a substance used as a cream for improving one's appearance as is known but rather as a treatment for colds.
