Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We ask Allah, The Exalted, to compensate you for the loss of your job, house, and money. We advise you to adhere to patience and turn to Allah, The Exalted, with supplication. Verily, all goodness lies in His Hands, and there is divine wisdom behind affliction. If the Muslim adheres to patience and seeks the rewards of Allah, The Exalted, for his affliction, he will attain all that is good in the worldly life and the Hereafter. Allah, The Exalted, Says (what means): {No disaster strikes except by permission of Allah. And whoever believes in Allah – He will guide his heart.} [Quran 64:11]

Commenting on this verse, ‘Alqamah may Allaah have mercy upon him said: “The verse refers to the situation when a calamity befalls a slave of Allah, and he knows that it is decreed by Allah, and, therefore, he becomes content with it and submits to Him.” [End of quote]

Suhayb may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Amazing is the affair of a believer; there is good in all his affairs, and that is for none except for a believer. If he is blessed with prosperity, he thanks (Allah), and that is good for him, and if he is afflicted with adversity, he adheres to patience, and that is also good for him.” [Muslim] Bear in mind that what happened to you might be only to test your faith, and not for any other reason.

Believing in bad omens is forbidden in Islam; it is impermissible for a Muslim to perceive a person or any creation of Allah, The Almighty, as a bad omen. Rather, it is stated in the Sunnah that believing in bad omens is a type of Shirk (associating partners with Allah). It was narrated by Abu Daawood and Ibn Maajah may Allaah have mercy upon them on the authority of ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ood may Allaah be pleased with him that the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Tiyarah (belief in bad omens) is Shirk! Tiyarah is Shirk!

If you are referring to the Hadeeth that reads, “If at all there is (something that can be a source of) bad omen, it would be in three: the woman (wife), the horse (or any means of transportation), and the house.” [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]; some scholars interpreted perceiving the woman as a bad omen to mean her being infertile, foul-mouthed, and self-exposing to suspicion. However, you said that your wife is so religious, well-behaved, and very patient; praise be to Allah.

So, disregard all doubts in this respect and know with certainty that Allah, The Almighty, is able to compensate you and grant you more than what you have lost.

Allah Knows best.
