Her Eemaan Is Affected because of Living in a Sinful Family

Question

Asalamu Alaikum,
I am in a situation where my family is sinful. Because of their sinfulness my iman has been negatively affected. I have no other family to stay with. What should I do?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

You have to strive to remain steadfast upon the Sharee‘ah and to comply with the teachings of Islam. The sins committed by others do not harm you as long as you dislike and detest those sins, but do not sit with your family members who disobey Allah, The Almighty, while they are committing sins unless you have no choice but to sit with them. You should also strive in giving them advice, reminding them of Allah, and helping them draw closer to Him and repent of such sins. If you do not have another family, then you should seek the help of Allah, The Exalted, and supplicate Him often, as this would help you hold firm onto your religious commitment at the time of Fitnah (temptation). You should seek righteous female friends whose company would help you obey Allah, The Exalted. A person does not get to choose his family, but he can choose his companions. You should also recite Thikr [expressions of remembrance of Allah] at all times. We ask Allah, The Almighty, to make us and you firm and steadfast upon His Religion.

Allah Knows best.
