Question

For Wudhoo’ (ablution) to be valid, is it conditioned to wash the eye from the inside?

Accepted Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

For Wudhoo’ (ablution) to be valid, washing the eye from the inside is not conditioned, and it is not even recommended. In Al-’Umm, Ash-Shaafi‘i said: "None of the scholars contested that the obligation of washing the face in Wudhoo’ is achieved by washing the external part thereof only. Also, one is required neither to wash his eyes from the inside nor to sprinkle water in them."
