The Limits of Asking Allah, The Exalted

Question

Assalam alaykum,I’ve been having skin issues and unfortunately it’s caused changes in my skin I don’t like and it’s caused me to age horribly. Can I ask Allah to give me back the same exact skin and face I had 5 years ago, and to let me keep the same exact face and skin for the next few years? Is this a transgression? Can I ask Allah to grant me a karamah in this?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It seems that the supplication mentioned by the questioner does not include any violation of the Sharee’ah, since its content does not go beyond asking Allah for a cure and enjoying good health. This is actually permissible according to the Sharee’ah and intellect. Ibn Al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him said, “Violation in supplication includes any request that contradicts the Wisdom of Allah, His Law, and His Commands, or it includes any matter contradicting what He, the Exalted, told us about. All of this is a violation that Allah dislikes it, and dislikes its doer.” See Badee’ Al-Fawaa’ed.

As for the question of asking Allah, the Almighty, to perform a miraculous at the hands of the person to make his heart steadfast, or to demonstrate his truthfulness, or to guide others to the Right Path, or to do any other lawful matters, it is permissible as long as such acts are separate from the satanic acts, that is, the supernatural acts that take place at the hands of the enemies of Allah through polytheism, immorality, and disobedience.

Allah knows best.
