The leader of the scholars on the Day of Resurrection

Question

Who will be the leader of the scholars on the Day of Resurrection?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

Al-Haakim may Allaah have mercy upon him reported in Al-Mustadrak that the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said about Mu’aath ibn Jabal may Allaah be pleased with him: “On the Day of Resurrection, he will be ahead of all the scholars standing on a hill” and in another narration: “in a distinguished high status.”

Undoubtedly, Mu’aath ibn Jabal may Allaah be pleased with him was the most knowledgeable of what is lawful and what is forbidden in this Ummah (Muslim nation), and the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, testified to this. Imaam Ahmad may Allaah have mercy upon him and the compilers of the Sunan reported that the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said:

“From among my Companions, the most merciful among my Ummah (nation) to my Ummah is Abu Bakr, the most strict among them in (observing) the religion of Allaah is ‘Umar, the most sincere in modesty among them is ‘Uthmaan, the most knowledgeable among them about inheritance is Zayd ibn Thaabit, the most skilled among them in reciting the Book of Allaah is ’Ubayy ibn Ka’b, and the most knowledgeable among them with what is lawful and what is unlawful is Mu’aath ibn Jabal. Verily, every Ummah has a trustee, and the trustee of this Ummah is Abu ‘Ubaydah ibn Al-Jarraah.”

Accordingly, the leader of scholars is Mu’aath ibn Jabal may Allaah be pleased with him.

Allaah Knows best.
