Rules of giving charity to disbelievers

Question

If I give a Christian a sum of money because he is so needy and lonely and wants to travel to his country, is this permissible or forbidden?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

There is no harm in giving money other than Zakah to a non-Muslim to fulfill his needs. This is the preponderant opinion of scholars. However, if the giver knows that the recipient will use this money in disobeying Allaah The Almighty, it is impermissible to give him for this matter such as buying a cross, wine or the like.

Allaah Knows best.
