Rescue yourself first

Question

I am a young woman. I made the acquaintance of a Muslim colleague who studies with me. However, I discovered that her behavior violates religious teachings and that she imitates young men. Should I completely cut my relations with her, deal with her just as a colleague or call her to commit to the teachings of religion?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

We advise you to keep away from this girl and others like her. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, cursed men who imitate women and cursed women who imitate men. [Abu Daawood, Ibn Maajah and At-Tirmithi]

You may advise her, enjoin her to do good, forbid her from doing evil and convey to her the abovementioned narration and other relevant narrations. If she responds, this would undoubtedly be better than the first alternative.

Allaah Knows best.
