The false claim that Companions burnt Faatimah’s house and aborted her child

Question

Is it true that the house of Faatimah, may Allaah be pleased with her, was burnt and her child was aborted, knowing that this incident is mentioned in many sources?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

All that is mentioned about the Companions may Allaah be pleased with her burning the house of Faatimah may Allaah be pleased with her and aborting her child is nothing but a manifest lie. This lie is propagated by the devil’s supporters from among those who hate and envy Islam and its people, and who hate the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and his household.

To discredit the Companions of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is to discredit the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, himself. Furthermore, it is an accusation made against him. It is as if he had failed to convey his Da‘wah (call) and had wasted his years without succeeding in bringing up a group of true believers who could serve as positive role models for all Muslims.

Moreover, it is as if the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, had chosen the dissolute, the wicked and traitors to be his companions. Of course, this is impossible and it is also impossible to believe that the companions of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, could be like this.

How could they be so when Allaah The Almighty purified them, praised them and commended them! He sent His Messenger, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, to educate them, purify them and teach them the Quran and wisdom and this is what actually happened, and all perfect praise is due to Allaah The Almighty.

Indeed, the Companions may Allaah be pleased with them loved the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and his household more than anything else in the world. This is how every true Muslim feels; loving the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and refusing the idea of letting anyone approach his household in the least offensive manner.

If this is the case, then how could anyone imagine that thousands of the Companions of the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, who raced with great zeal in the Farewell Hajj to acquire just one of his noble hairs or take a sip of the water that he had left, would turn into fierce monsters and try to harm Faatimah may Allaah be pleased with her who was the most beloved person to him?

This is incredible and can only be believed by those who possess sick minds. How could a horrible thing like this happen and all Muslims be standing still and doing nothing? If this had truly happened, then where were Banu ‘Abd Al-Muttalib, Banu Haashim, the Muhaajiroon (the emigrants), the Ansaar (Madeenan helpers) and all the other Muslims?

Any reasonable person would immediately realize that this could never be anything but a lie. It is a lie that is fabricated by a malicious person; an apostate who believes the Prophet's companions may Allaah be pleased with them to be disbelievers, traitors and hypocrites. Such belief consequently means that he does not believe in the Quran and Sunnah that were gathered by the noble Companions may Allaah be pleased with them. In short, he does not believe in the religion that was conveyed through them.

Hence, the righteous predecessors decided that whoever discredits the Companions is to be considered a heretic .

Moreover, it must be known that this falsehood also implies an accusation made against ‘Ali and his strong and courageous sons may Allaah be pleased with them for how could he stand still and watch his house being destroyed and his child being killed without trying to defend them. What a disgrace! A courageous fighter, who knows that dying for the sake of defending his honor will win him martyrdom, sees his house being destroyed and his wife being attacked and does nothing about it! This is incredible, especially that Faatimah may Allaah be pleased with her was not only his wife but also the daughter of the person he loved most, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

We supplicate to Allaah The Almighty to grant us His pardon and forgiveness and we praise Him for the blessing of Islam and for granting us sound minds. We also ask Him to guide those who have been misled from among the Muslims and to restore them to sound reasoning.

Allaah Knows best.
