Materialization of visions

Question

I often feel that I have formerly experienced real events in visions; what is the interpretation of this?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If you mean that your visions are materialized in reality, then you should know that it was reported on the authority of ‘Ubaadah Ibn As-Saamit may Allaah be pleased with him that the Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam , said that the vision of the believer is a part of the sixty-four parts of prophethood. [Al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Daawood and Others]

The Shaafi‘i scholar, Ibn Hajar may Allaah have mercy upon him transmitted the following on the authority of Al-Muhallab may Allaah have mercy upon him:

There are three kinds of people regarding visions:

First, the prophets, may Allaah exalt their mention, whose visions are truthful and some of their content may require interpretation.

Second, the righteous people whose visions are mostly truthful and some of them may not require interpretation.

Third, all others whose visions may include truthful parts as well as confused dreams.

Ibn Hajar may Allaah have mercy upon him then transmitted the following on the authority of Al-Qurtubi may Allaah have mercy upon him:

The righteous truthful Muslim is endowed with something of the advantages that are granted to prophets, which is insight on some matters of the Unseen. On the other hand, both the disbeliever and the immoral person are deprived of this advantage. Therefore, even if their visions are truthful at times, this does not mean that they have insight on matters of the Unseen. Rather they resemble a liar who may sometimes speak the truth. Furthermore, not all talk about the Unseen is considered a part of prophethood; such as that of soothsayers and astrologers.

Consequently, materialization of visions is a fact and only an arrogant person would challenge it, particularly when it happens to an obedient Muslim. True visions should not be surprising since they converge with prophethood at the source; they are both truthful revelations from Allaah The Almighty that cannot be denied.

Allaah Knows best.
