Question

I cannot locate or account for the disappearance of my camera. I suspect that a maid in my employ may have taken it, but I have no proof. Can I deduct the price of the camera from her salary, then return it later if I find she is innocent?

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

If you do not have any proof on your claim, then it is merely a suspicion that she stole those things. Therefore, you do not have any right to deduct from her salary or ask her any kind of payment.
