Making Umrah in Mecca

Question

I'm living in Holy Makkah. I want to perform Umrah do I need to go Masjid Taneem for this act? Or I can go from my home direct to Haram? I read one Hadith about it that "Ahle Makkah min Makkah". If we can go to Hajj direct from our homes, why it need to go this Masjid for Umrah?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Residents of Makka and those people who are within al-Mawaqit (appointed places for Ihram in Hajj and 'Umrah) can start the state of Ihram from their places of living (homes) for performing Hajj only.
In this concern, Ibn 'Abbas narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "…and for those who live within (those bounds their Miqat is that) from which they commenced and for the people of Makka, Makka itself is (the Miqat)". [Reported by Imam Muslim]
As for 'Umrah, the residents of Makka have to start their Ihram from outside the bounds of al-Haram, and the nearest point for them from Makka is al-Tan'im. This is mentioned in a Hadith recorded in the two Sahihs (sound) books of al-Bukhari and Muslim that when 'Ayisha (Radiya Allahu Anha) wanted to perform 'Umrah after Hajj the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) ordered her brother 'Abdul-Rahman to go with her to start 'Umrah from al-Tan'im. This means that the Prophet's (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) previous saying: "and for the people of Makka, Makka itself is (the Miqat)" is only special for Hajj.
Allah knows best.
