Why did Allah create the moon?

Question

Why did God created the moon?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. Allah created the moon for great profits that cannot be numbered in this Fatwa. But we can mention here some of them giving evidence of the Lordship of Allah, His Unicity, His Greatness, His Power and that He has no partners. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {And He has subjected to you the night and the day, the sun and the moon; and the stars are subjected by His Command. Surely, in this are proofs for people who understand. }[16:12]. Allah also Says: {It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. They all float, each in an orbit.}[36:40]. He also Says: {They ask you (O Muhammad SAW) about the new moons. Say: These are signs to mark fixed periods of time for mankind and for the pilgrimage. It is not Al-Birr (piety, righteousness, etc.) that you enter the houses from the back but Al-Birr (is the quality of the one) who fears Allâh. So enter houses through their proper doors, and fear Allâh that you may be successful.}[2:189]. He Says: {And has made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp?}[71:16]. He Says: {And He has made the sun and the moon, both constantly pursuing their courses, to be of service to you; and He has made the night and the day, to be of service to you.}[14:33]. We advise you to return to scientific books that talk about the moon and its relation with the earth and other celestial bodies. Allah knows best.
