Question
I have a brother who loves cars and car race. Is it possible or allowed for him to race a car? Is it possible for him to race a car while his mother forbids him?
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
There are two aspects with regard to your question.
* The first aspect:
- If the car race is held in return of money, it is forbidden to participate in it for the following reasons:
1) Disobeying and being undutiful to the mother, after being always dutiful to her.
2) Taking compensation from this race, and it is not permissible to take compensation from it.
3) Exposing oneself to danger and death.
Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {….and do not throw yourselves into destruction (by not spending your wealth in the Cause of Allâh),….}[2:195].
* The second aspect:
- If the car race is held without any compensation, therefore it is Haram to participate in it for the following reasons:
1) Being undutiful to the mother.
2) Exposing oneself to death.
