Courtship and Jihad

Question

Does Islam allow the practice of courtship? How can we carry out Jihad and what are the necessary steps in order for a Muslim to participate in it?

Answer

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Courtship (courting women) is one of the bad habits and is among many sins that are widespread, and it is Haram.

Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.). That is purer for them. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware of what they do. And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts, etc.)…..}[24:30-31].

In Saheeh Bukhari and Muslim, it is reported that Ibn Abbas narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: “A man should never stay in seclusion with an alien woman”.

Allah, The Most-High, ordered women not to speak in a soft and attractive manner so that those who have a disease in their heart would not wish to satisfy sexual desires with them, Saying: {…then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery, etc.) should be moved with desire,….}[33:32].

Courtship begins with speaking in a soft and attractive manner.

With regard to participating in Jihad, the steps that should be followed by the Muslim are as follows:

1) Iman and performing actions of good deeds and performing the daily-required actions (of reading Qur'an and remembering Allah mornings and evenings….).

2) To memorize the Qur'an and what is possible in Sunnah, and ponder about their meaning.

3) To avoid committing all kinds of sins and to stay away from places where sins are committed.

To repent to Allah, seek forgiveness and keep company with pious and righteous people.

Allah knows best.
