True Religion, Mixing of Sexes

Question

How do we really know that Islam is the right religion? There are many religions in the world, how can we really say that Islam is the correct religion? Of course, our religion makes the most sense (at least to me, the Quran has much more meaning then any other religious book that I have read before). The Qur’an is probably the only Holy Book, that I have read, that has no contradictions.
I have one more question, I am 18 years old, in an American school, and sometimes temptations can get in the way of the pure Muslim life. I go to the school everyday, and I see the half dressed girls exposing their beauty and body which ruins every good act that you do in that day. Do you give me any advice? How can I control myself? Sex before marriage has become a normal thing to my friends, and even I think about it but I haven’t done yet. Can you give me advice how to resist these temptations?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Answer to first question:

The religion of Islam is the true religion because it distinguished by the pure and true creed in comparison to the filth of Shirk (associating partner to Allah) and Jaahiliyyah (Ignorance – the time before Islam). In addition to this, Islam follows the Divine system governed by Divine legislations and stays away from the filth of sins. It also establishes a balance between responding to the needs of the body, with energy, food and enjoyment; and refining the desires and regulating it according to Islamic jurisprudence principles, without causing a deficiency or imbalance of any right [i.e. fulfilling the needs of both the body and soul].

The great companion, Salman Al-Faarisi may Allaah be pleased with him explained these rights to his brother in faith Abu Ad-Darda’ may Allaah be pleased with him saying: “Your Lord has indeed a right on you, and your own self has indeed a right on you, and your wife (and family) has indeed a right on you, so give everyone his right.” [Al-Bukhari and others]

Answer to second question:

You have to leave the mixed school if there are other schools where you can continue your study. But if there are no other schools and your need for this precise study is a necessity and the Ummah (the nation) needs that study, then we do not see any harm in staying in this school provided you do not feel any seductions. If you feel temptation and cannot control yourself, then it is better to leave this school since obeying Allah is more important than studying while disobeying Him. Whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, He will compensate him with something better than what he has abandoned.

You have to take the Divine treatment which the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) described for you and other young people, which is fasting, lowering one’s gaze, avoiding the places where women are present, and remembering Allah much. You should remember that Allah is watching you, and He Knows what is hidden in your heart and knows your desires.
We advise you as well to keep company with the good and pious people, and to always go to mosques.

May Allah enable you to do this.
