Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

No, you did not pass the age of learning the Quran. Seeking knowledge is not fixed to a specific age.

And the Quran is Most honourable science (knowledge).

Some of the companions who embraced Islam when they were over thirty or forty years of age became the Fuqaha (shcolors) of the religion of Islam.

So, do not submit yourself to the whispers of Satan which wants to prevent you from doing good.

The followings are some steps that will help you to memorize the Quran:

1. To seek the help of Allah.

2. To enliven the determination by what is reported about the excellence of learning Quran and the excellence of those memorize it.

3. To keep company with a Sheikh who would teach you the correct pronunciation, otherwise you can get the tapes of the Quran, like the “Al-Mus-haf Al-Muallim” by Al-Hussary.

4. To be keen on learning the Quran and not let yourself get preoccupied by other non-obligatory sciences.

5. To continuously revise what you have learnt.

6. To be patient and steadfast.

7. To refrain from the disobedience of Allah. Disobediences are the major hindrances from learning the Quran.

8. You have to know that we are not only ordained to learn the Quran, but also to ponder on its meaning and act according to it.

If you have just started to become religious, then you have to be concerned with individual obligations.

And before learning the Quran, you have first to know what is required from Aqeeda (creed) and Islamic jurisprudence rulings.

Allah knows the best.
