Watching films and covering of women

Question

My question is: Is Makrooh to see the film of "Sayyidha Maryam al-Muqaddas" because I bought it from Manar TV, but some Muslims in my country seed to me, it is Haraam to see it. The second is Makrooh to wear a Muslim woman, sory (like a woman in Iqra' TV?) because I like them, and a wear like them, but the people told me this wear is Haraam. Please answer me.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

First of all we would like to draw the attention of the dear questioner that films and serials are usually not free from music and forbidden musical instruments, and other forbidden matters.

Featuring in a film usually requires the mixing of men and women, like those who feature as a daughter, or father or brothers of sisters or wife.

They indulge in shaking hands, hugging and sometimes kissing, therefore there is forbidden looking, forbidden touching and so on, as it is known. In addition, the actors may take the role of Prophets and people who did not believe in them and dispraised them, and in some cases these films report things that have no authenticity, and which could be contradicting Islaamic creed; such films are forbidden, without doubt, and to watch these films is also forbidden. If the film or the serial is free from all these prohibitions-which is most unlikely- then there is no harm.

Anyway, the scholars are of the view that it is an obligation on a woman to cover her face when she fears being tempted or tempting others, but differed about this matter when there is no temptation. Some scholars are of the view that covering the face is obligatory (when there is no temptation) and some others are of the opinion that it is only desirable. Anyhow, what these women wear is not enough because they do not cover their faces which are beautified. Most of the T.V female presenters are young and it is feared that they could cause temptation as they are dressed in beautiful clothes.

Please refer to Fatwa: 81554 about the covering for women, and Fatwa: 88555 about the film 'The Message', for more benefit.

Allaah knows best.
