Buying items from unknown sources

Question

I have jewelry business and I sell and some times I buy stuff from the street I am not sure the source for these items?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

In principle whatever is in the possession of a person is considered as being his property. So this property cannot be excluded from this principle without evidence. Therefore, if you are not sure that these items are stolen or taken by force, then there is no harm in buying them from whoever sells them. But if you are sure that they have been stolen, then it is not permissible for you to buy them.

Allaah knows best.
