Question
I am from south India (Nagore) tsunami hitted areas. I have Zakaat money, can I pay to tail wave hitted people.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
It is permissible to pay the Zakat money to the victims of the Tsunami if they are among the people who are eligible for Zakat. The people eligible for Zakat are mentioned in Fataawa: 88368 and 86546. Finally, it should be noted that Zakat cannot be given to a non-Muslim according to the consensus of the scholars
. So you have to give it to your Muslim brothers; may Allaah accept it from you.
