Committing adultery and wants to get married

Question

I am in so deeply in love with a Muslim man. He is married for his citizenship here in the US. He loves me and wants to marry me. We have been together for about 7-years on and off. I love him so much my desire to make love to him is so overwhelming that we both have given in so many times. God knows how strongly I feel for him in my heart. Actually I am married to him in my heart, soul and mind. When we have the ceremony it will only confirm our relationship. What does the Quran say about this situation? Please give him and I suggestions to help in our situation. He cannot marry me right now due to other circumstance and until he cleans up his mistake of his marriage.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

First of all we invite you to embrace Islam which is the only true religion that commands virtue and prohibits all kinds of evil. It is the perfect religion that guarantees success in this life and the Hereafter if followed truly. For more details read our Fatwa: 88258. The rights of women are highly respected in Islam; see Fatwa: 81237.

Islam protects the honor and lineage of people and keeps the society chaste and pure. So, it is strictly forbidden in Islam to mix with opposite sex or to have personal relations. We have already made it clear in Fataawa: 82299 and 84315.

Indeed, you are committing a sin by living with him and having illegal intercourse. Now, we advise the dear questioner, to hasten to embrace Islam. Whenever a person embraces Islam all his/her past sins are eradicated and he/she becomes as pure from all sins as he was the day his mother gave birth to him.

If you embrace Islam, and he repents from his sin you may marry him fulfilling the conditions of a valid marriage in Islam such as the consent of your guardian, presence of two trustworthy witnesses with bridal money given by the husband. For details read Fataawa: 88488 and 83629.

Allaah knows best.
