Question

I am a 30 years unmarried guy, Allaahu A'lam when I will get married, but when I get married and have baby girls, I want to name then Safaa and Marwah, so that I remember Allaah even when I am calling kids. Safaa and Marwah being names of mountains, is it permissible to name these?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

It is desirable to name new-born children with good names such as the names of Prophets, male and female Companions, and other names of righteous men.

The names of some places of excellence are included in this as well, like 'Arafah, Muzdalifah, Minaa, Makkah and the like.

Therefore, naming some daughters with the name As-Safaa, and Al-Marwah and the like is a good thing. For more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 84551 and 87262.

Allaah Knows best.
