Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

You have to pay all the debts you owe the university as soon as possible. The right of the people can not be dropped at any cost. However, if the university gives up its whole right or part of it, then you become free from this liability; otherwise, you have to pay the entire amount you owe the university. See our Fatwa: 88360.

The mistakes of other students are not an excuse for you to commit a sin. It is very easy to transfer the money to the account of such a known university or to contact them for information about repaying the loan.

You should inform the bank of your financial condition and arrange terms to repay the loan, or if you believe that you will not be able to pay the entire amount, you can ask them to drop a portion of the amount which you believe you will not be able to pay. You should try to give the bank its rights and also seek Allaah's help and forgiveness.

Allah knows best.
