Moving index finger

Question

This is regarding moving the index finger during Thashahhud. I read your Fatwa: 81988 and have got a pretty good idea about the matter. I got confused with the following sentence in your Fatwa: 'Finally, we conclude that moving the finger sometimes and leaving the movement other times is desirable to follow the Sunnah. We say this, because it is closer to Sunnah.'
Does this implies that we should move the finger for sometime and keep it static for other times during the same Tashahhud or is it that during a Tashahhud in one prayer we keep moving from start to end and in another prayer's Tashahhud we do not move at all?
I hope you can clear my doubt. may Allaah, The Almighty, reward you for your priceless efforts in Islam.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

We highly commend your keenness on learning Islamic knowledge, may Allaah reward you the best on your zeal to follow the true practice of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ).

The Fatwa to which you referred means that one should move his index finger in his Tashahhud from the beginning to the end of the prayer in some prayers, and in some other prayers he should point with it without moving it.

Allaah Knows best.
