Question
Could you please let me know the meaning of the name Zara? My wife and I are planning to name our daughter Zara, but we are not sure of the meaning.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
We are not aware of the meaning of the name Zara. However, we have already issued Fatwa 87596 on naming Muslim children with appropriate names, and Fatwa 82724 clarifying that it is desirable to name children with good names, so please refer to them.
