The place of holding one's hands whilst standing in prayer

Question

In reply to my last question you have not replied to its last part which was about the views of Imaam Ibn Taymiyyah regarding position of hands in Qiyaam besides that you have not mentioned the view of the Imaam Maalik in this matter. Hopefully you will respond to these questions.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

We have not come across the opinion of Ibn Taymiyyah may Allaah have mercy upon him in relation to the place of holding one’s hands whilst standing in prayer. As regards Imaam Maalik may Allaah have mercy upon him there are different opinions, there were some scholars of his school may Allaah have mercy upon them who reported that he is of the view that it is desirable to place the right hand over the left, and some other scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them reported that he disliked this in obligatory prayers but not in supererogatory prayers, and this is the opinion adopted by the Maaliki school.

Allaah Knows best.
