It is forbidden to touch impurity without a necessity

Question

What is the ruling on sleeping on a bed which is touched by impurity?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

In general a Muslim is required to stay away from filth and impurities so that he would always remain pure. As regards sleeping on a bed which is touched by impurity, if one, by sleeping on it, would touch the impurity, then a Muslim is obliged to avoid it. As a matter of fact, some scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them are of the view that it is forbidden to touch impurity without a necessity other than when performing the prayer (this is in the case of someone who has constant discharges or urine). One of the Shaafi'ee books reads: 'It is forbidden to touch impurity with one’s body or one’s clothes outside the prayer without necessity.'

However, if sleeping on the bed does not lead to touching this impurity, like if the bed was touched by impurity but it is no longer on it, then there is no harm to sleep on such a bed.

Allaah Knows best.
