The existence of children does not justify not dividing the time equally between two wives

Question

A man is married to two wives, one has children and one does not have children. Does he have to divide equally his time between the two wives? Or is the one who has children entitled to more of his time than the other one who does not have children?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

It is an obligation on the husband to be just between his two wives in regard to providing for them and dividing his time equally between them. The fact that one wife has children and the other does not have children is not an excuse to give the one with children more time than the other. Yes, it is permissible for him to give the children the time that they deserve but in the house [or room] of the one which is her turn.

Allaah Knows best.
