Question

assalam ou alaikoum oua rahmatou allah oua barakatou! is removing hair (permanately)from some part of the body(ears and under the eye)for man is permissible in islam.jazakoum allah khaiiraa.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

We have already clarified in Fatwa 81950 that the person's hair is of three types. A type which Allaah ordered us to remove, like the hair under the armpit and the pubic hair; a type which Allaah ordered us to keep, like the beard; and a type about which the Islamic Law kept silent and there is no text as regards keeping it or removing it. Indeed the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Whatever He kept silent concerning, is allowed for you." [Al-Bazzaar] So, a person may do anything he pleases with this type of hair, he may remove it or he may keep it.

Therefore, there is no harm in removing the hair under the eyes or on the ears. Nonetheless, if the hair is to completely be eradicated with Laser rays and the like, then the permissibility of this is conditioned on not causing any harmful side effects as the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "One should neither harm himself nor cause harm to others." [Maalik]

Allaah Knows best.
