Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

If the birds are among those which we are allowed to eat, then their excrement is pure and it is not an obligation to wash the clothes that are touched by it. Even if one performs the prayer while having some of these excrements on his clothes, his prayer is valid because the urine and dung of animals which we are allowed to eat, are pure as clarified in Fataawa 91362 and 91392.

However, it is better for a praying person to stand before his Lord with clean clothes, especially that few scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them are of the opinion that the excrements of birds which we are allowed to eat, are impure.

Therefore, in order to be on the safe side, it is better to wash the part of the clothes that are touched by the excrements of birds which we are allowed to eat.

As regards the birds, the meat of which we are not allowed to eat, then their excrements are impure. Ar-Ruhaybaani may Allaah have mercy upon him from the Hanbali School of jurisprudence, said: "The urine and excrement of birds which we are not allowed to eat, like the swallow and bats…, are impure."

Thus, it is an obligation to wash the clothes that are touched by the urine or excrements of birds which we are not allowed to eat, and whoever performed the prayer without washing his clothes, his prayer is invalid because of neglecting one of the conditions for the validity of the prayer, which is purifying oneself from any form of impurity.

Allaah Knows best.
