Wants a Dua to make the father change his decision about his son's marriage

Question

Asalam waylaykum I would like to know if if anyone knows any prayer or dua which can be read to help someone change his mind. I have a friend whos father has chosen a girl for him to marry, but he dosn't want to marry her because he wants so marry someone of his choice. His father won't listen to him and he has done istekhara asking Allah swt who he should merry and his dream came out to be postive meaning that he should merry the girl of his own choice. He has tried his best in telling his father and explaining to him but it just doesnt seem to work, that is why i was wondering if there is any dua or prayer which can be done in order to help change his fathers mind. Jazakallah W.salam

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

We do not know any supplication in regard to your question, however, you may supplicate with general supplications for Allaah to facilitate things, among which are:

1) You may supplicate with the following Prophetic supplication: "Yaa hayyu yaa qayyoom, birahmatika astagheeth, aslih lee sha'nee kullahu, walaa takilnee ilaa nafsee tarfata 'ayyn." "O Ever Living, O Self-Subsisting and Supporter of all, by Your mercy I seek assistance, rectify for me all of my affairs and do not leave me in charge of my affairs even for a blink of an eye." [At-Tirmithi]

2) You may also supplicate with the following supplication confirmed from the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) who used to say: "Allaahumma laa sahla illaa maa ja'altahu sahla, wa anta taj'alul-hazna ithaa shi'ta sahla". "O Allaah! Nothing can be easy except that which You make easy, for You make any hard matter easy if You wish". [Ibn Hibbaan]

3) Finally, you may supplicate with the following: 'Ali may Allaah be pleased with him said: "The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said to me: "Say: ''Allaahumma ihdinee wa saddidnee." "O Allaah! Guide me and make me successful in this regard [in being guided and enabled to do good]."

As regards the issue of this man marrying the woman who was chosen for him by his father, then it is not permissible for his father to force him to marry her if the son does not want to marry her, and he is not obliged to obey him in this regard. However, if it is confirmed after consulting trustworthy people who know her that she is religious and that she has a good moral conduct, and it is possible for this man to please his father and marry this woman, then Allaah may put much good in their marriage. However, he should not rely only on a dream when performing the Istikhaarah prayer, as a dream is just something which merely acts as a helping aid in making the decision and not the decisive factor. Rather, what should be taken into account is whether or not this marriage is made easy by Allaah.
