The fate of Gog and Magog

Question

Assalamu Alikum Varahmatullh..... I would be grateful to you if you clear my doubt given below. It can be understood that Yajooj and Majooj's dwell will be in Hell fire. Which prophet was sent to them? Did any one call them to our prophet's message as our prophet was sent to all nations. Will they be punished without having any prophets?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

We have not come across the name of the prophet who was sent to Gog and Magog. The scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them mentioned that they were in the era of Thul-Qarnayn, as proved in the Quran. Thul-Qarnayn might have been their prophet, according to the scholars who say that he was a prophet. See Fataawa 81773, 85553 and 86690.

As for whether or not they will dwell in Hell, the answer is yes, as was proven in sound prophetic narrations.

As for the question of how can they be punished without receiving any prophet, Imaam Ibn Katheer may Allaah have mercy upon him answered saying: “They will not be punished except after establishing evidence against them as Allaah Says (what means): {And never would We punish until We sent a messenger.} [Quran 17:15]. If they were before the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) then other messengers would have been sent to them and evidence was already established against them. If no messengers were not sent to them, then they would be considered as those to whom the message of Islam never reached. It is proved in the prophetic narrations that such people will be examined on the Day of Judgment by being called to Islam. Whoever responds to the call will be admitted into Paradise and whoever refuses will be thrown into Hell. This test neither necessitates their salvation nor does deny the narrations that prove that they will be in Hell. Allaah disclosed some matters of the Unseen to His Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) and has informed him sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) that they are doomed people who will not accept the truth.” (End of the quote).

We do not know whether or not the message of Islam has reached them after the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ). However, the principle is what we have mentioned that Allaah will never punish a nation except after establishing evidence against them. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 85624.

Allaah Knows best.
