Hadeeth about reviving the Prophet's parents of to believe in him
Fatwa Date : Rabee' Al-Awwal 17, 1439 / 5-12-2017
Is this hadith authentic?
‘Aa’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated, "The Prophet was standing in a very grieved state in Hajjun (where his mother's grave was). He stood there for a while and returned to me in a very happy state. He said, 'I asked my Lord, and He revived my mother; she was sent back after she believed in me.'" (see Nabhani, Hujjatullahi ala’l-Alamin, p.412)
‘Aa’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated, "The Prophet asked his Lord to revive his mother and father. He revived them and they both believed in him. Then they were returned to their previous state." (ibid)
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The hadeeth about reviving the parents of the Prophet and them believing in him and then causing them to die again is a hadeeth about which the scholars differed in opinion as to whether it is authentic or not.
Al-Qurtubi, As-Suyooti, and others said that it is authentic. However, the most prominent scholars of Hadeeth classified it as weak, and many of them ruled that it is fabricated.
Ibn Katheer said in his Tafseer (exegesis), "The hadeeth about reviving the parents of the Prophet is not reported in any of the six books of the Sunan, nor in any other book, and its Isnaad (chain of narrators) is weak."
Among the scholars who decisively stated that the hadeeth is fabricated are Ibn Al-Jawzi, Shaykh Ibn Taymiyyah, and others.
Allah knows best.
