Read her friend’s personal information on Face-book site

Question

Assalamo alaikom wa rahmato Allahi wa barakatoh, my problem is that i logged in an old's freind profile on the face book.it is not a private network, however i know she is going to be annoyed if she knows i did.i knew some info about her;where she works, her freinds... i knew she is working at a firm i was about to join, and that made me more eager to join that company.i am supposed to be studying some stuff before i have an interview, but to be frank i was a little lazy, and wasted time. since that;seeing my freind's info,i became suspicious.every ime i think about concentrating on the job,and working to get it ,i feel it is because of the influence of seeing my freinds profle, which i beleive is prohibited. how do you think i can get out of this? and do you think this info i got is a kind of stolen? Jazakom Allah kol kheir

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

We learnt from some people who have knowledge about this site that it is permissible for everyone to read the information that is advertised in it and benefit from it. If this is the case, then it is permissible, in principle, to read the personal information of people who are published on this site.

However, since you know that your friend dislikes you reading her personal information, then you were wrong by reading it without her permission, but this is not considered as a theft.

In any case, you are obliged to repent to Allaah and ask your friend to forgive you unless you fear a greater harm by informing her about what you did. In which case, you should supplicate in her favour.

However, you should not give way to your whispers and you should seek refuge in Allaah from the devil in order to get rid of it, and remember the vast mercy and forgiveness of Allaah.

Finally, it should be noted that there are some conditions that a woman should meet if she wants to work; these are explained in Fatwa 82399.

Allaah Knows best.
