Each person is resurrected in the state they died in

Question

Will people have the same appearances and ages in Hell and Paradise that they had in this worldly life?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

The texts of the Sharee‘ah show that people will be resurrected in the same state in which they died - with the same appearance and doing the deed they were doing at the time of their death as stated by the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. [Muslim]

However, the case is not the same when people enter Hell or Paradise. In Paradise, people’s appearance and age will change and they become 33 years of age, as indicated by the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. [Ahmad and At-Tirmithi] As for non-Muslims, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said that in Hell the molar tooth of a non-Muslim will be as big as the Mountain of Uhud, and his skin will be as thick as the distance a person riding a fast animal covers in three days. [Muslim] Also, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, mentioned that the space the non-Muslim occupies in Hell will be as wide as the distance between Makkah and Madeenah.

Allaah Knows best.
