An unmarried woman choosing a married man in Paradise

Question

Dear Sheikhs, In the answer to a question on your site it says,"If a woman dies without having a husband, Allaah The Almighty allows her to choose a husband from the men in Paradise who have died without having wives." Can the woman not choose a man who died while having a wife? I understood that men in Jannah are allowed to have more than one wife. JazakAllahuKhairan

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

There is nothing which prevents a woman who died and did not get married to choose a man from the people of Paradise to marry her. Allaah Says about Paradise (what means): {And therein is whatever the souls desire and [what] delights the eyes.} [Quran 43:71]

On the contrary, evidence is reported that a man of the people of Paradise may have another wife from the women of this world other than his wife. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said about the men of Paradise: “Each one of them will have two wives.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] When Ibn Hajar may Allaah have mercy upon him interpreted this narration he said: “This means from the women of this world.” And it is known that a great number of men of this world had only one wife.

In any case, a Muslim male or female should be concerned about what would make them enter Paradise, like having a correct belief and performing acts of good deeds, and therein [Paradise] each of them will find everything that he/she wishes.

Allaah Knows best.
